and what the fuck are these?

really.

can you imagine how much you'll be sliding around on this?

should i do it?

i mean seriously. they're $365 on ebay with free shipping. just to ship a bike you're looking at $50-$75, even $100. so with that in consideration. the frame is $300. i guess that's the point. to make me want to buy this bike. *sigh*. but i really like that katana forgotten dreams too, not to mention the 09 rush hour. do i have a problem?

cranksgiving ann arbor!!!

andy in ann arobor is putting together a food drive style alley cat to benefit the washtenaw county food bank.
it's going to be a long weekend of trickery and races starting with our second tricks and skids competition, with longer sprints and new events, saturday at 6pm. sunday is the day of alley cats with cranksgiving in ann arbor starting at 3pm. riders are asked to bring a lock, $10-$20 for non-perishable food items, and a warm heart. that evening is detroit crushin's crushgiving at 8pm with an after party at the detoit eagle featuring pixiu of beat kids and lyndon french of cycle works. i hope everyone can attend everything.

you can learn more about cranksgiving ann arbor by clicking the link on the flier or simply visiting cranksgiving's home page. in keeping with the spirit, click on the michigan food bank link to find out how you can help in your area.

halloween in portland

eric and i made a brief visit to portland, oregon. there's a submarine, and trees, and grass. we met up with some kids, randomly, from portland fixed for a mini-mass and ride through the city. got this picture in the park in the center of the city.

now about the airlines.

i suggest to those of you that fly with your bikes to not fly delta or northwest. while checking in to fly back from portland the lady behind the desk made quite a fuss about our bikes and charged $100 a piece for the bikes. my problem with this is that we hadn't checked any other luggage and the that weight of each bicycle in their cases was less than 50 lbs. now, nwa says that over sized luggage is luggage that weighs 50-70 lbs, which carries a charge of $75. so why does a bicycle that is within the size and weight regulations of something that is less than an oversized piece of luggage carry a $100 charge? this puzzles me because, since the rising costs in oil, flying has become very costly. the airlines have removed meals, charges for any snacks on a flight, and the first piece of checked luggage is already $15 dollars. to get on a plane with one checked bag and no carry on with a desire to snack will run you hundreds on dollars off the bat. if you compare the size of a bicycle box, packed properly, to that of a rolling suitcase, dimension and weight wise, they are nearly the same...so why does my bicycle cost $100? how can a family board an airplane with packed to the brim rolling cases and still fit within the charges of a regular piece of luggage, or even an oversized piece of luggage, yet my bike is an immediate $100 charge? i recently checked delta's website to clarify their charges for bringing a bicycle on. what i found intrigued me. the website now states a $175 charge for a bicycle since their join, merge, whatever, with nwa. what. the. fuck.
take into consideration a person that is willing to fly with a bicycle. my intention is to save some money. i'm not interested in renting a car and will use public transi minmally. for a person to act responsibly by providing their own transportation and be charge a fee of $100 is rediculous. i'm going to do my best to check into every airline's pokicy regarding bikes and oversized luggage and keep this forum open for thise of you that read here so that you can make an informed decision when traveling with your bike. the most efficient way to know a business is to hit them in their pocket books, hopefully, if enough people catch on to this scam by deciding to provide their own transportation, the airlines wil get a hint and lower, if not eliminate, their charges on bicycle and treat them as a normal piece of luggage.

both eric's and my bike returned to detroit. what frustrated me even further, however, was that after paying the $100 to check a bike, they weren't put in a location accessable by the public. i found them in a back room, behind a desk, amongst dozens of other items of luggage left unattended. take into consideration that this was at midnight, when offices are starting to close for a period of time. if i pay that much money to check a bike, there is no excuse why i shouldn't have any piece of luggage that comes with that much a charge to be delivered promptly to where i can recieve it. the icing on the cake was when i noticed that one of the straps on the bicycle case was ripped out of place. what am i paying $100 for? it became very obvious that the fee is no assurance of any sort of protection or added care but a simple ploy to make people pay more money for a dying industry.

i'll stop now, but this will continue. i'll keep everybody advised of a better, easier was to travel with a bicycle and avoid the frustration we experienced by a company which was given nothing more than our money and cooperation.

did ya know?

The marijuana measure, Proposal 1, led 63% to 37%, with 87% precincts tallied early this morning. The vote was 2,566,783 in favor to 1,526,477 against.
When it goes into effect -- 10 days after the vote is certified later this month -- patients suffering from cancer, glaucoma, HIV/AIDS and other conditions can be authorized to cultivate, possess and use marijuana without fear of prosecution under state law.
Michigan becomes the 13th state to approve medical marijuana, meaning that one in four Americans will live in a place where the use of the herb for medical purposes will be legal, according to advocates for legalization.
