critical mass

i am looking forward to doing detroit's critical mass for the first time.
i haven't ridden in a critical mass in a very long time, mostly, for personal reasons.
chicago's was hectic and got out of control often which eventually ended up with the mass being split in half half way through. i do remember, the last mass i did, we walked more than we rode.
also.
there are innumerable ways to raise bicycle awareness without crowding friday evening rush hour traffic. critical mass pisses more people off than it does raise awareness.
nevertheless, i'm going for the ride. i'll let you know what happens.
